The most enchanting event occurred at work the other day! As I was walking down the hallway with a cart full of books to start the daily shelving, my friend Kelly walked up with a surprise. Inside a file folder was a freshly printed copy of her new book, The Legend of the Fairy Stones!
A beautifully rhythmic story that informs the reader of the folklore surrounding Staurolite, aka fairy stones, is a delight to read. Public domain artwork collages and poetry, interesting typography, and well-sourced information turned me on to these stones, which are shaped like crosses and can be used as amulets to ward off evil or break curses. They are said to be the tears of fairies after Jesus died.
They form naturally and can be found all over the world. I can't wait to go hunting for fairy stones!
The best part of this encounter was that I learned Kelly would be vending at the Baltimore Fairies Fair on April 13th 2019, where you can buy her book. I vend at the fair as well, so it's nice to have a friend at work who loves fairies as much as I do!
