Daily Outfit: Wooden You Like to Know?

As I went walking through the park seeing squirrels scurrying through the overgrown ivy on the fallen trees, I heard a noise behind me.  A deer darting through the dell!  Running as fast as the wind, it got away before I could take a picture...

Luckily, I was wearing my doe necklace.  This charm was handcrafted by me using a ten cent toy.  It reminds me to walk softly in the forest, with fawns footsteps...To leave no trace and be quiet.

Wood-grain patterns help blend in with the trees, aiding in camouflage when one wants to walk unnoticed.  The Dainty Squid makes quality zippered bags.  Other faux bois accessories include glasses and cases.

I was recently gifted this skirt by Issac Mizrahi with a light wood fabric has a very vintage 70's vibe.  And when wandering the woods, my Hunter boots that I found for free keep you safe from snakes, mud and more!

Fairytale Fun in the Forest

Once upon a time,

I am a girl from the forest.

I live in a small cottage near the woods
& do all the household chores

After three weeks of weary woodworking,
I grew tired of chores and wandered into the forest...

Under the tree, shaking silver on me...

A fairy godmother appeared to be

Suddenly, my old rags turned into a ball gown
through the magic of gratitude...

a simple dress will always do,
wear your heart on your sleeve
and a smile on your face

I look down to see a pair of magic shoes, glittery glass slippers...

The fairy godmother said to me

"Finish these chores as quickly as possible,

and you shall have fairytale fun."

I scrambled like a squirrel to clean the cottage
and my wish was granted:

a trip to the theater to see Disney's Cinderella!

Of course, I was on a deadline.  I had to make the 7 o'clock show,,,

As I waited and waited...

Finally a pumpkin carriage arrived to take me through the woods!

Daily Outfit: Into the Woods

The day after Christmas, my mom came into town from out of state and we went to the movies to see Into the Woods.  I have been a big fan of the musical for years and could not wait to see it adapted to the silver screen!  The fact that I'm currently writing my own musical doesn't help... I wanted to wear an outfit that told the story of into the woods.  I even wore false eyelashes with witches, trees and a graveyard!

An owl pocketwatch I got for Christmas.  It has nothing to do with Into the Woods aside from the fact that there are owls in the woods.  I just wanted to wear it since my mom got it for me.

A matching mushroom pin...

I have owned this skirt by Made with Love by Hannah for years.  Since it has a big green forest and some of the characters from Into the Woods, it went perfectly with this outfit!

I recently picked up these tights from Hot Topic and wore them, though there are no bears in the play.

Daily Outfit: Fall Forest Farmer

It's feeling like fall in my neck of the woods!  We went out for a nice morning walk in the woods and saw pretty yellow leaves.  I wore an outfit that has lasted me four years so far...a dumpster dived brown overall dress that I altered a bit...you see, this dress originally had gold writing that said '#1 Player' on the pocket.  I sewed a scrap of deer fabric over it, and the forest farmer's dress was created!

Daily Outfit: A Little Doe

Today I was getting dressed when I discovered an old shirt in the back of my closet.  A forgotten tee with a deer on it.  Longing to wear it again, I put together this outfit and went to do my makeup.  I remembered that I had been wanting to try a deer-inspired look this year.  Here was my attempt...

I used an orange blush with white eyeshadow to define and add dots.  Surprisingly, it came out well... I added an old deer headband I made a long time ago...

Here is a close-up shot of the top I wore.  "We All Can Use A Little Doe" I think I got this for a quarter at a thrift store, either that or dumpster dived it.

Since polka dots are about the easiest "nail art" for me to do quickly, I thought to make a deer print inspired look.  Paired with a deer ring I had featured here before, this completed the look.

Daily Outfit: Green Polka Dots & Cats

Happy friday, forest friends!  I'm finishing the week off with a lot of planning for next week's content, as well as working on various books I'm writing... I recently got this basic green polka dot dress and have been re-styling it several different ways.  This time I went for a cat-themed look.

I have a huge collection of gold animal pins with green eyes or accents, so I put on all my cats today

I painted my nails green with polka dots last night and decided to top the look off with my favorite watch, a cat chasing a mouse!

Daily Outfit: May Flowers. Mushrooms & Herbs

Today was a nice day.  The sky was cloudy, the moss was green, and the flowers were bright bursts of yellow.  I spent most of the day tending to our garden, collecting herbs, and pressing flowers.  Jesse and I went on a walk to the park to pick ivy to transplant into our backyard, when I noticed that the ivy was trailing up a grey tree going from dark green to light, just like my outfit.  Funny when life imitates art, isn't it?

A handmade mushroom necklace since I sometimes gather mushrooms on my foraging trips...

My friend Bree gave me this skirt, I noticed it looked just like our squash plants, dark green leaves with bright buttery yellow blossoms.  We like to eat them stuffed with cheese or at breakfast with eggs.

When I work in the garden, I tend to just wear wooden clogs since I can clean them easily...

Gathered big bunches of rosemary to make soap, satchels, and a little project I plan to share next week...

Daily Outfit: Meandering Moose

Hi, forest fashion fans!  The other day, my boyfriend's dad brought home a six-pack of Moosehead Lager.  As I was cleaning up the mess, I held a bottle cap up and admired the green and red design.  I try to recycle whenever I can, so I decided to use the bottle caps to make myself a custom collection of forest accessories.

I ended up making a necklace, ring, and a pair of earrings (clip-on for me!)  If you can't find Moosehead caps, just take a walk around the woods.  Sadly, in my town, people seems to think these woods exist for the sole purpose of drinking and littering.  I hate that, so I try to clean up when I can...

I made the necklace with an old gold chain and a small gold leaf clasp...

I added a Moose patch to a basic olive dress, the kind forest rangers wear.

Too bad wild moose aren't native to Southern California!  I didn't spot any on my march to the forest.

Daily Outfit: Mushroom Monday

Friends of the forest, I dubbed today "Mushroom Monday".  Why, you ask?  Well, I simply felt like it.  I drank my morning coffee in a blue mushroom mug, made a playlist of mushroom-themed music, wore a mushroom outfit, and plan on making a mushroom dinner! I kind of feel like a gnome in this outfit. We went on our march to the forest and hunted for mushrooms!

Daily Outfit: Squirrels, Deer, and Critters Oh My!

Howdy, friends of the forest!  It's been a pretty good day in my forest.  Had a little yard sale, made a little money, and went for a little walk in the woods.  I spruced up an old dress I had with lace and patches.  I simply added a little lace around the edge of the dress, and an iron-on squirrel patch.

I have had this patch for years, but never used it because I was afraid I'd ruin it!

The deer and the squirrel crossed paths in the woods...

My mom sent me a package the other day with these awesome deer leggings and a stag keychain!

Daily Outfit: Picnic in the Park

Today I decided to wear a color I normally shy away from: red!  I've had this picnic table print top for years and never wore it!  When paired with a cute skirt of a forest and mushroom, it took on a whole new life!

I love the ants that cover this pattern.  They reminded me of the other day when I went to the forest and there were a ton of huge ants crawling all over the place!  Braids helped complete a "forest farmgirl" look.

Finally, some patent read leather shoes I've also had in my closet for ages and barely wear.
Well, bye-bye friends of the forest!  I'm off to pack a picnic to take to the park!

Daily Outfit: Basic Brown Squirrels

Hi, friends of the forest!  Today I wore a very basic outfit to wear around the office.  I am very much a believer in recycling outfits, so I paired an old squirrel pattern shirt with a basic brown pencil skirt and matching  squirrely accessories...

I made this necklace several years ago  and decided to pair up basic browns with  wooden accessories.  The shirt was found on a dumpster dive years ago. I matched a beige polka dot sock set to my brown patent leather shoes...
